Subject: RE: Reunion 2004 decision?
To All
A) I thought we were leaning to (or decided on) New Hampshire as
1-the western part of the family had spent little time there and seemed interested (especially the Alaskans)
2- and the eastern part would then not have to fly, meaning the whole get together would be less expensive for all
3- nostalgia reasons
4- a reasonable chance to find a High mountain lodge type place and activities
5- overall cost would be reasonable
B) Although we do not have to decide now, and I have no problem considering other options but we should decide
the general location reasonably soon. If it is New Hampshire the western contingent may plan other trips around that.
They may avoid flying east the year before in anticipation of this trip, or if it is not New Hampshire that may also
impact their summer travel in the previous years. So to be fair to those traveling I would say by spring of 2002 we
should make a general decision on where we will meet and when.
C) Randye and I took a wonderful cruise on Dick float boat in Prince William Sound for three days many years ago.
( I suspect Gary would not be diabolically opposed to such a cruise although Randye [and just about everyone else]
might.) Heather, since you did not mention yourself I assume you would be OK with the cruise idea? Anyway we
should be open to ideas but New Hampshire has a level of universal appeal, the key think is to try to get everyone to
come. I would not be opposed to reconsidering High Mountain Lodge but maybe that could be for 2008 [sorry].
D) We should try to use the web site for these discussion and I will post this letter there for future reference.

Don't worry, Gary can swim alongside the ship while the rest of us work
on our tans and shuffleboard skills.

Subject: Reunion 2004 decision?
Having scanned all of Martin's wonderful work on the family web page, I
came across the "decision made" reunion for 2004.
Perhaps the decision was made and finalized (and I just missed it - which
is fine) but I was under the impression we were still considering this
location pending availability of the now requisite perks of a family
reunion site. (Sorry, but you all spoiled us by picking such a wonderful
lodge for Winter Park, complete with access to the mineral springs!
Anyway, I would like to re-open the decision-making process (at great risk
of getting my first ever hate emails - nostalgia for Happy Acres or
whatever the New Hampshire family spot was called might set any one of the
original Friedrichs over the edge, understandably so...)
I would like to propose that we don't make the actual decision until we
have a better idea of our options.
One past option which we might want to reconsider is the idea of a cruise
ship. The prices are getting lower and lower and the locations are quite
diverse - but tropical wouldn't be too much a hardship would it? I do
remember that some of the family were eager to either give it a try or go
back on a cruise. And virtually all the "issues" relating to age
interests, food, community gatherings, and ammenities are taken care of
without a single other thought. We must still be sensitive to dietary
preferances, but perhaps this could be reconsidered again. I do remember
the younger set being particularly eager to do this.
So let me know if you want to suggest any other alternatives and if we stay
with NH, it would be awfully nice to know what we can expect there.
It would be best to send your responses to the whole family list serve so
that everyone it equally informed. Here is my list for the family
(excluding the German branch). If anyone is missing please update me and
the others.
Thanks.
Jeanne
